Police in Nakuru are holding a 50-year-old man who is alleged to have defiled a six-month-old infant.
The man, identified as Mr David Kosgey from Kaptembwo in Nakuru Town West, was arrested on Saturday.
"Investigations commenced immediately and the suspect is currently locked [up] at the Kaptembwo Police Station," Nakuru deputy OCPD Daniel Kitavi said, adding that the suspect will be arraigned on Monday.
Kosgey is reported to have inserted his fingers into the baby's genitals, injuring her severely, while the mother was out doing chores.
"I screamed for help and that is when neighbours responded and apprehended the offender," the mother, who is at Nairobi Women' Hospital where the baby is admitted, said.
A police officer said the baby was bleeding from her private parts.
She underwent reconstructive surgery and her situation is improving.
