Six people were on Monday seriously injured at Kibunja on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway after the driver lost control of their bus, which veered and fell on its side.

The vehicle, which was heading to the Subukia shrine in Nakuru County, was carrying a group of youth from St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Burnt Forest.

Molo police boss Daniel Kamanza said the 8am accident occurred when the bus driver tried to avoid hitting a car.

He said the car was attempting to overtake the bus in the third lane, which is meant for vehicles heading down the slope.

“The driver of the bus steered the vehicle away from the car,” Mr Kamanza said. “In the process, the bus lost balance and fell on its side.”

He said no death was reported.

Two people were taken to the Nakuru Level Five Hospital while others were treated at the Molo Sub-County Hospital and discharged.

One of the survivors told the Nation that they were going to the shrine for prayers, which are popular during this time of the year, ahead of Christmas.
