8 injured as matatu collides with car on Molo-Elburgon road

Eight passengers have been injured after a 14-seater matatu collided head on with a saloon car at Mau along the Molo-Elburgon road.

According to eye witnesses, the driver of the matatu was avoiding hitting a pothole when the car appeared in front of him.

The matatu was heading to Nakuru from Molo when it collided with the car which was headed to Molo.

"The driver of the matatu was speeding and overtaking on a sharp corner, "said Mr George Kamau, a resident.

Mr Kamau said many drivers are losing control of their vehicles while avoiding potholes which are all over the Molo-Elburgon stretch.

While confirming the incident, Molo OCPD Daniel Kamanza urged motorists to be cautious while driving on the road.

TAKE PRECAUTION

Mr Kamanza said drivers should take precaution and observe traffic rules.

"The road has many potholes which pose danger to pedestrians and other road users, "said Mr Kamanza.

Two of the occupants of the car were among the critically injured and were taken to Elburgon Sub-County Hospital and Molo Sub-County Hospital.

Residents have called on the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to ensure that the road is clear for drivers.

Mr James Mutai said the area is surrounded by a thicket which blocks drivers from a clear view of what lies ahead.

"KeNHA needs to clear the bushy sections on this road in order to give [a clear view] to road users plying this route, "said Mr Mutai.
