Kapsabet-Kericho Road has been reopened following six hours of protests by angry Nandi Hills residents after two bodies were found dumped in a sugarcane plantation on Friday morning.

Traffic resumed only after the Nandi Governor Stephen Sang intervened by pleading with the protestors to clear the highway, telling them the motorists and passengers stranded in the jam were innocent in the matter.

Nandi Hills OCPD Patrick Macharia said the police had received information that could lead to the arrest of the killers.

Mr Macharia said preliminary investigations showed the two men were killed elsewhere and their bodies dumped in the sugarcane plantation.

Governor Sang blamed the police for laxity, saying they had mounted several road blocks on the road but were yet to arrest anyone.

“The people of Nandi County must be assured of their security by the central government and security [officers] must ensure criminals are arrested and charged in court,” said Mr Sang.

Local residents told Nation that another body was retrieved from the same area recently.
