Man suspected of killing boy, 13, in Narok South arrested

A man suspected of killing a teenager at Esimendwa village in Narok South on Sunday night has been arrested.

Confirming the arrest, Narok County Commissioner George Natembeya said the 27-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday after he was identified by villagers who spotted blood stains in his clothes.

The suspect, according to police, seriously injured a 73-year-old grandmother and a class six girl, 12, in the clashes between the Maasai and Kipisigis communities in Narok South.

“The suspect is helping the police with investigations and is being held at Ololunga police station before he is arraigned in court," said Mr Natembeya.

Police also said detectives are investigating claims that the suspect raped both the granny and the girl before he hacked them with an axe.

The victims are at Tenwek Mission Hospital where they are fighting for their lives.

 “The attacker hacked the grandmother and her granddaughter and left them for dead,” said Mr Hosea Bungei who took them to hospital.

A resident, Ms Emily Kirorei, said the children’s mother died three years ago while their further was away at the time of the attack.

 “This attack is barbaric. As residents we strongly condemn the attack and urge the police to speed up investigations so that the victims can get justice,” said Ms Kirorei.

 A three-year-old child who survived the attack and informed villagers of the incident is said to have hid under the bed as the other family members were hacked by the intruders.

 The clashes between Kipisigis and Maasai communities started after a herder was killed last week at Nkoben in  Mau Forest.

 More than 58 houses have been torched, 278 cows and 76 goats stolen.
