Police in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, have launched investigations into the death of a 30-year-old businessman whose body was found on Thursday in a drainage on Ol Kalou-Miharati road, near Kariamu market.

Preliminary investigations indicate Robert Njuguna was waylaid and murdered a short distance from his Kindawa village home in Ol Kalou town.

His naked body was found lying in a pool of blood with severe head injuries.

Area Chief Benson Mathenge said this is a second murder in the area after a watchman was recently attacked at work in Jua Kali area.

BHANG ROLL

A resident, Robert Kamande, said a roll of bhang and a toothpicks container were found next to the deceased’s naked body.

“We got a report that a body was found lying in the drainage. We rushed to the scene to identify it and I found it was that of my neighbour Mr Njuguna who recently got married. Insecurity is becoming a concern in this area,” said Mr Kamande.

He attributed the increased rate of crime to drug abuse, especially bhang which is openly smoked by youth in the area.

POOL HALL

Mr Kamande described the deceased as a hardworking and a social person, who sold maize in Ol Kalou town.

The chief said the deceased was last seen in a pool hall in Jua Kali and it’s suspected his killers tracked him from there, waylaid and killed him at the scene of the murder.

“We have the suspects and we are also aware of a gambling den at Jua Kali where the criminals operate on a 24-hour basis. It’s a notorious pool hall patronised by criminals.  This is a second murder in the area within a month. I have discussed the issue with the police and we are certain action will soon be taken,” said the chief.

Police officers led by area OCS Mark Masinde arrived at the scene and removed the body which they took to JM Memorial Hospital mortuary.
