Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has maintained his stand that the Jubilee administration has neglected Mt Kenya region.

Speaking Saturday in in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, Mr Kuria said the people of Mt Kenya must be told the truth ahead of the 2022 elections to enable them make the right and wise decision on the right leadership.

The MP said that residents of the region are yet to realise the fruits of the Jubilee administration even after overwhelmingly voting for it twice.

PROMISES UNFULFILLED

“The Jubilee government is yet to fulfil its promises to residents of Mt Kenya region. The residents of the region have stood with the government twice and it is time for it to reciprocate.

“Many parts of the region still lag behind in terms of roads, electricity and water yet the residents still support the Jubilee government,” said the MP.

He was speaking during the burial of the Mr John Mwangi Kagema, founder of Equity Bank and chairman of Enashipai Resort.

Mr Kuria noted that it is time for the government to improve the status of the people living in the Mt Kenya region through enhanced development.

He at the same time called on for equitable distribution of resources.

REVENUE ALLOCATION

The MP regretted that most of the counties in the Mt Kenya region are being categorised as privileged areas hence leading to reduced allocation of resources by the Commission on Revenue Allocation.

“That is why we should review this process after the census so that the resources can be shared equally. Our people should not suffer anymore,’ he said.

He lamented that inequitable distribution of resources has led to a lot of suffering and poverty in the Jubilee dominated region.

“There has been this misconception that maize is the staple food of this country. In many parts of Coast and Northern Kenya, it’s a rice nation,” Mr Kuria said.

POTATO FARMING

He said due to poor planning, potato farming is still lagging behind in Nyandarua.

“Nyandarua is one of the food baskets of Kenya but potatoes and tomatoes are being fed to animals and that is why I say what we need is to have a serious agro-processing industry in Nyandarua,” he said.

He added that there are no roads in Nyandarua fo delivery of agricultural produce to markets in Nakuru, Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Thika, among other parts of the country.

Mr Kuria took issue with Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia for allegedly failing to provide water to residents despite the county being the major water provider to Nairobi.

“The water consumed in Nairobi mostly come from the Aberdares, the huge chunk of which is in Nyandarua,” he said.

“My question is, why would the custodians of the Aberdares have to resort to boreholes for water?” he posed.
