Nyandarua Country Assembly Speaker Wahome Ndegwa was forced to adjourn House Business on Tuesday as rival MCAs clashed over leadership roles.

The Speaker said he was unable to control Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to transact the business of the day.

CONFUSION

Trouble started when the speaker invited ousted Majority Leader Kamau Gathungu to table the executive's budget documents.

Kipipiri MCA Ngeche Kamau stood on a point of order, saying the speaker was confusing the House as Mr Wambugu King’ori was the new Majority Leader.

Mr Ndegwa refused to acknowledge the new leader, explaining that he and others were elected in a hotel so there were illegalities that were subject to a court battle.

Kamimbaga MCA Gathure Wambui also stood on a point of order and reminded the speaker that Mr Gathungu and others were also elected at a Naivasha court.

He accused Mr Ndegwa of bias, prompting him to read documents filed by embattled Chief Whip Hussein Kasana.

The documents directed leaders to remain in office until the matter is determined in court.

CAT AND MOUSE

Mr King’ori stood on a point of order and read a court order issued on Monday that quashed earlier orders obtained by Mr Kasana.

"Mr Speaker, you cannot read the court orders selectively. You are acting like a judge and interpreting the law to suit you. We are not going to allow you to do that or to dictate what should be do about Jubilee Party leadership positions,” he said,

He and newly elected Deputy Majority Leader Justus Gaita arrived at the assembly earlier and occupied seats reserved for the majority leader and the deputy.

Mr Gathungu and his deputy Ken Mukira were stranded for a few minutes on finding their seats occupied by the rival team.

Their rivals disobeyed the speaker's orders to vacate the seats, as their supporters celebrated.

Mr King’ori later went to the washroom so Mr Gathungu grabbed the opportunity to occupy the majority leader's seat.

When the former returned, he refused to take any other seat, saying he is the duly elected majority leader.

Some MCAs supported Mr King’ori as the security team tried to contain the situation. They formed a human shield around him, shouted and sang victory songs, forcing the speaker to adjourn the House.
