MP tells Duale, Murkomen to carry own burdens, resign over NYS scam

What you need to know:

  • Ms Waiguru alleged that the two leaders tried to intimidate officers in her former ministry to allow the embezzling of the funds.
  • Mr Kega, who is also a member of the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly, said they were waiting for the Auditor General to finalise on the special audit report that will shed light on the NYS scandal and put the matter to rest.

Kieni MP Kanini Kega has asked National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen to resign after being mentioned in the theft of more than Sh791 million from the NYS.

Mr Kega said that the two Jubilee leaders should follow the provisions of Chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya on integrity.

“Look at the history of others who have been implicated previously, they (Duale and Murkomen) should follow suit. If they are implicated they definitely know what they are supposed to do,” he said.

Mr Duale and Mr Murkomen were mentioned in an affidavit by former Devolution Cabinet Secretary, Anne Waiguru.

Ms Waiguru alleged that the two leaders tried to intimidate officers in her former ministry to allow the embezzling of the funds.

The Kieni legislator also sought to distance the Jubilee coalition the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.

He said the coalition was not corrupt and asked the due to carry their own crosses.

“This has nothing to do with the Jubilee coalition. Anne Waiguru is not a member of TNA.
Everyone mentioned in the affidavit should carry their own cross,” he said.

“It is shocking that whereas Ms Waiguru responded to the allegations in Kabura’s affidavit with a sworn affidavit at EACC, Murkomen and Duale have resorted to giving us press conferences,” he said.

Mr Kega who is also a member of the Public Accounts committee of the National Assembly said they were waiting for the Auditor General to finalise on the special audit report that will shed light on the NYS scandal and put the matter to rest.

“All that Kenyans want are sworn affidavits giving answers for the NYS money, not press conferences,” said Mr Kega.

The legislator was speaking in Gakawa location in Kieni during the burial of Senior Private Martin Murage, one of the KDF soldiers who died in El-Adde attack in Somalia.
