The Rotary Club of Karatina from Nyeri County becomes the newest affiliate member of the Rotary Club International after being awarded a charter on Saturday night.
The club’s board of directors and the president, Mr Nelson Maina, were inaugurated during a ceremony attended by District Governor for Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea and South Sudan Jeff Bamford at Omega Gardens Hotel.
During the ceremony, the Karatina club was issued with a charter certificate signed by Rotary international President Barry Rassin.
Scores of Rotarians from several parts of Mt Kenya region and across the country attended the function.

ROTARY, NOT LOTTERY
In his acceptance speech, Mr Maina said he had faced challenges recruiting members to the club because of a general misconception by some people who confuse rotary clubs with lottery firms which are associated with betting.
He said unlike lottery firms, a rotary club brings together likeminded individuals, neighbours, friends, professionals and problem solvers to discuss ideas on how they can have an impact in their community by offering humanitarian service and advance goodwill in their communities.
