Nyeri County workers will undergo lifestyle audits every year to fight corruption.

Governor Mutahi Kahiga said this Thursday, disclosing that he will not be exempt.

He said he had sent some county employees on compulsory leave over questionable dealings.

Addressing journalists in his office, the governor said the audit will end wasteful spending of public funds.

“If the public notices that I am changing my suit three times a day, they should ask tough questions,” said Mr Kahiga.

“We will have lifestyle audits for our workers.”

The governor spoke moments after assenting to the Sh7.1 billion Appropriation Bill during a short ceremony attended by Nyeri County Assembly Speaker John Kaguchia and ward representatives.

Mr Kaguchia refuted claims that his House served as a rubberstamp for the executive.

In neighbouring Kirinyaga, four towns will be upgraded to city status in a 15-year-plan unveiled by Governor Anne Waiguru as she ordered those who had grabbed more than 250 acres of public land to return it.

The Mountain Cities Blueprint 2032 will see Ndia Constituency become the organic city and a fresh produce basket, Gichugu the resort city to promote agro-tourism and Kirinyaga Central the health and wellness hub.
