Appearing before a Nyeri court, Ismael Jacob Saningo who is a prison warden at Mandera GK Prison denied the first charge of injuring a Nyeri police station officer Mr Geodfrey Oloo.

He also denied the second charge of creating disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by chasing his wife Saadia Adan using a Somali sword.

Jacob is alleged to have committed the offences on November 25, 2013 at 12.00 pm at the Nyeri Police Station.

According to the court’s report, the accused is alleged to have chased his wife using the sword.

She sought help from the Nyeri police post where she was rescued by the officer on duty Mr Oloo.

It was during this rescue mission that the suspect grabbed the officer’s collar injuring his left side of the face and causing deep cuts on his left arms.

Mr Oloo was rescued by fellow police officers who also took the sword later to be used as exhibit before the court.

KADHI'S COURT

While denying both charges before the court, Jacob told Nyeri Resident Magistrate Ms Catherine Mburu that he was a Muslim and thus his case should be heard before a Kadhi’s court.

“I am a Muslim and Muslim cases are handled by the Kadhi’s court,” he said.

However, the magistrate told him that his was a criminal case which was properly before the court.

Ms Mburu released the suspect on a Sh200,000 bond with a similar surety and set December 16, 2013 as the date for hearing of the case.

Meanwhile, the same court ordered a 56- year- old woman who allegedly killed her husband to undergo a mental check-up before facing trial.

The Narumoru Police Station investigations officer Chtalu Bruce told the court that he had started investigating the case and requested for additional time to conclude the investigations.

He further told the court that a post-mortem procedure was yet to be done.
