Mourners heckle Jubilee's Tuju for criticising Raila Odinga oath

What you need to know:

  • Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju dismissed Nasa leader Raila Odinga's oath as a mockery.
  • Mourners heckled Mr Tuju and walked out of the funeral as he was giving his speech.

Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju was heckled at a funeral in Rarieda, Siaya County, after he termed Nasa leader Raila Odinga's "oath" a mockery and inconsequential.

"When I was a kid I used to play ‘kalongolongo’ (a children’s cooking game). Now that I have grown up you don't expect me to play the same game. The swearing in was like ‘kalongolongo’," he said.

WALKED OUT

He was forced to cut short his speech as angry mourners jeered him and walked out of the funeral of former Ambassador Rateng' Ogego’s mother in Aram market.

Some of the mourners did not return to the graveside for burial.

Mr Tuju’s security was beefed up and there was a heavy presence of plain clothes and uniformed police officers at the burial.

Mr Odinga took oath on Tuesday, defying calls to cancel the swearing-in.

Jubilee leaders have dismissed the oath and said President Uhuru Kenyatta was validly elected and sworn in.

But Nasa maintains that they won the August 8, 2017 election. They released alternative results, which the IEBC dismissed.

The African Union Commission, US Department of State and the European Union have also criticised Mr Odinga for taking oath.
