A KCSE candidate in Taita Taveta County has been forced to discontinue from sitting her exams after she was struck by mysterious blindness.
The candidate from Marungu Secondary School in Voi sub-county developed visual complications before she could sit for her first paper on Monday.
County Director of Education Philip Wambua confirmed the matter and said they had recommended that the candidate be given medical attention.
“We assessed her but she cannot sit her papers. Her eyesight has failed and she has to see an eye specialist,” he said.
Sources from the school said the candidate was in perfectly good health and was eagerly looking forward to the examination until a fortnight ago when the problem started.
She developed visual problems and was taken to hospital.
The doctors were unable to detect the problem.
She was later be prayed for by local pastors but the problem persisted.
The blindness would later become severe on Monday when the KCSE was about to start.
“She can only see blurred objects. She is physically incapable of reading and writing,” said the source.
