Missing high school teacher found dead in Maungu forest

Voi OCPD Joseph Chesire said the body was discovered by herders who reported to the matter to the local chief.

A secondary teacher who went missing on Wednesday last week has been found dead in a forest in Maungu, Taita Taveta County.

Mr Kepha Otwoma was reported missing by his family before his body was found at Sagalla ranch.

According to the police, the Mwaghogho Secondary School teacher’s body was found dangling on a tree.

Voi OCPD Joseph Chesire said the body was discovered by herders who reported to the matter to the local chief.

“We took the body to St Joseph Shelter of Hope Hospital [mortuary] in Voi for preservation,” he said.

The OCPD said no suicide note was found and police have started investigating the cause of his death.

“We are waiting for post-mortem results for us to know what killed him,” he said.

Earlier, the family of the 35-year-old and education officials in the county had revealed that the teacher was suffering from depression.

County Teachers Service Commission director Joyce Kukuvi said the teacher was on bed rest at the time of his disappearance.
