The body of an elderly man who drowned while crossing a flooded area in Banda village, Tana River County has been found.

The body of Ali Abdullah was found by locals who were among those involved in the search mission.

"We found the body this evening. It had some fish bites. We just thank God he has been found," said Mr Noah Zakayo, a Nyumba Kumi elder in Peponi camp.

The roads in Banda village have been cut off by heavy rains and flood water.

Mr Abdullah drowned by while crossing a flooded area with his livestock and eyewitnesses said he was headed to a nearby market.

A team from Kenya Red Cross, the police and locals had been searching for his body since Saturday morning.

“Mr Abdullah, 68, has been buried at their village in Gamba according to Islamic rituals,” said Mr Zakayo.
