Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana flagged of a consignment of relief food in Hola.

The three trucks carrying more than 4,000 bags of drought pellets were flagged off for Tana North and Tana Delta where the drought has adversely affected.

Speaking during the ceremony in Hola, Governor Godhana thanked the European Union for its effort to support the county in mitigating the effects of drought.

He said the county was facing adverse weather conditions making the drought worse compared to other seasons.

“We are grateful for this distribution that is to be shared among three sub-counties; being that it’s the first contingent we are receiving from the European Union to curb this situation. It is just the beginning of the response activities to deal with the drought,” he said.

Mr Godhana also appealed for more support from well wishers and other donors who have focused their effort in dealing with the drought situation.

“We are appealing for more support from well wishers and donors to the people who have been hard hit by the drought, to be able to help us navigate through this situation until it reaches a time we will all be safe,” He said

He said that the county government was working towards mobilising its resources towards addressing the drought affecting the county, alongside the cholera menace.

The county’s National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) has received 7,800 bags of drought pellets courtesy of the European Union, a program funded at a tune of Sh24 million.

The drought pellets are meant for weak and lactating cows. However, NDMA Coordinator Abdi Musa says the supply is not enough, and appeals for more based on the huge number of livestock available in the county.
