A man has been swept away by floods while attempting to cross a flooded road at Charidende in Tana River County.

More than 1,500 families have been displaced, joining 3,000 people already in camps as floods continue to wreak havoc in the county.

County Red Cross co-ordinator, Jerrald Bombe, said the numbers are set to rise as about 300 families are still stranded in Nanigi village.

The Tana River County government has bought a boat capable of ferrying 30 passengers to aid in rescue operations.
