Police looking for kin of woman killed by floods in Tana River

Police in Tana River are looking for the family of a woman whose body was recovered at a canal in Bura.

The woman, identified as Janet Akinyi Omollo, was swept away by flash floods as she crossed a road at Bilbil, Tana River County.

Bura OCPD Tom Okoth told nation.co.ke that the woman was coming from hospital in Garissa, where she had been referred to for further treatment, when the incident occurred.

“While trying to cross the broken road alongside other people, the woman panicked and slid before being swept raging floods,” said the OCPD.

MISSING PERSON

Mr Okoth said that body was taken to Mwingi Level 4 Hospital mortuary.  

Mr Okoth has appealed to members of the public with any reports of a missing person to report to the nearest police station.

The floods, which have displaced about 10,000 people in Tana River County, have so far killed three people. Tana North sub-county is the most affected.

MOTOR BOATS

Broken roads are yet to be repaired as Kenya National Highways Authority waits for the waters to subside.

This might take long as water levels keep rising day by day owing to the ongoing rains.

Meanwhile Red Cross Society staff are currently using motor boats to rescue families that have been marooned by the floods in Tana River.
