Kindiki says State projects in Meru, Tharaka-Nithi stalled

Senator Kithure Kindiki has said that most of the road and water projects started during the first term of the Jubilee administration in Tharaka-Nithi and Meru counties have either stalled or are progressing very slowly.

Speaking Tuesday during an inspection tour of Keeria-Magutuni-Kathwana road in Maara Constituency, Prof Kindiki said in some projects, even the contractors have already left.

“There are seven roads and several water projects that were launched by Jubilee government in Tharaka-Nithi County but some of them are completely stalled due to lack of funds,” said Prof Kindiki.

LOBBY FOR FUNDS

He called on leaders from the two counties to unite in order to lobby for the financing of the projects as a region before President Uhuru Kenyatta leaves office in 2022.

He expressed concerns that after Mr Kenyatta, the next president may not listen to them and the projects may end up stalling forever.

The lawmaker also urged the leaders to refrain from blame games or politically attacking President Kenyatta or his deputy William Ruto, saying this could make it hard for the two to listen to them.

Prof Kindiki noted that work on the Keeria-Magutuni-Kathwana road that was launched by DP Ruto in June last year was expected to start immediately but was delayed due to lack of funds.

He noted that recently, the government paid the contractor Sh112 million, which is ten percent of the total amount and that he expects the work will move smoothly.

Some of the stalled projects include Chuka-Kaare and Gatunga-Chiakariga roads and Kirubia Stadium.
