Two relatives have died while seven others have been injured after two cars collided near Kajiunduthi High School in Tharaka-Nithi County along the Meru-Nairobi highway.

Confirming the Sunday night incident, Maara OCPD Johnston Kabusia said the injured are being treated at the Chogoria PCEA Mission Hospital, two in critical condition.

He said the driver of a Honda Fit car that was moving from Meru town towards Chuka town with five people on board lost control and collided with a Toyota Harrier vehicle that was carrying four people.

“The two people, a man who was the driver of the Honda Fit car, and a woman, died on the spot and their bodies were taken to Chogoria PCEA Mission Hospital mortuary while the injured were rushed at the facility for treatment,” said Mr Kabusia.

He said the two in serious condition are a woman aged 35 years and a three-year-old child.

Mr Kabusia urged drivers using the highway to be extra cautious while driving between Embu and Meru town since the road has many corners and steep slopes.

Mr James Mutegi, a resident said he heard a loud bang and when he rushed to the scene, he found that the Honda Fit vehicle had rolled off the road and the occupants were crying for help.

“It was not easy to rescue the injured from the wreckage,” said Mr Mutegi.

He said the stretch of the road near the secondary school is a black spot that has claimed many lives through horrible crashes.
