Police in Tharaka-Nithi County have opened investigation after the body of a Form Three student was found hanging from a tree in Chuka.

The body of the Kiamuriuki Secondary School student was found dangling from a mango tree by a street-boy who alerted passer-by, Chuka/Igambang’ombe police boss Benson Makumbi said.

“The body has been taken to Chuka County Referral Hospital's mortuary and investigation opened,” Mr Makumbi said.

He said police cannot conclude that the student committed suicide until investigation is completed.

Residents who spoke to Nation said the boy comes from a needy family and his education was sponsored by a local church.

Mr John Mugambi, a resident, said the boy’s parents have been having frequent domestic disputes and that the boy appeared to be always stressed.

“He had previously threatened to hang himself and event bought a rope but was counseled by a local clergy,” said Mr Mugambi.
