18 injured after matatus collide at Maili Tisa, Eldoret

Eighteen people have been injured after two 14-seater matatus collided head-on at Maili Tisa along Eldoret-Webuye highway.

The Sunday 4.30pm accident involved Eldoret Shuttle Sacco matatus.

"This place has become a blackspot, I ask the Kenya National Highways Authority to erect bumps to avert more loss of lives, " said Mr Simeon Kirwa, a boda boda operator at Jua Kali.

CARELESS DRIVING

Eldoret West police boss Zachariah Bitok, who confirmed the accident, urged drivers to avoid careless driving.

"Drivers should exercise caution during the rainy season and avoid overtaking carelessly," said Mr Bitok.

According to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr Wilson Aruasa, 14 of the injured are stable and are due for discharge.  

“We have received 18 victims of the accident, 14 had soft tissue injuries and are in stable condition, four with serious injuries have been admitted,” said Dr Aruasa on phone.
