  • Kenya Defence Forces orders recruits and recruiting officers to go to Emusire after ordering camp at Bunyore Girls closed.

A military recruitment drive in Emuhaya, Vihiga County was temporarily stopped on Thursday following confusion over the venue where it was to be held.

Senior recruiting officer Lt. Col. Joseph Ngeny stopped the exercise which was underway at Bunyore Girls and ordered the camp closed.

He ordered all the recruits and recruiting officers to go to Emusire which is about five kilometres away, saying local administration officers had complained that Bunyore Girls is in Luanda and not Emuhaya.

At Bunyore Girls, recruits had already been taken through document verification and measurement of height and weight.

But before the recruits could be taken to the next steps, including running and undergoing medical tests, Mr Ngeny stopped the recruitment.

"Today, we are recruiting in Emuhaya. We have been told by the deputy county commissioners Bunyore Girls is in Luanda and not Emuhaya," said Mr Ngeny.

While the exercise was underway at Bunyore, many other recruits were said to be waiting for the same exercise to start at Emusire.

"We have broken up the camp here at Bunyore so that we can set it up at Emusire. We hope to finish in good time," he said.

Mr Ngeny apologised for the confusion and assured the mishap would not recur.
