Schools will not reopened any time soon according to Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.

The Education minister announced on Friday that the decision to reopen learning institutions will be made after scrutiny of Covid-19 pandemic data from the Ministry of Health.

He reiterated the government is not ready to put the health of schoolchildren at risk.

“The ministry will advise the level of preparedness that will be required of all stakeholders involved in the running of Early Childhood Development Centres, primary and secondary schools, and teacher training institutions,” he said during a press briefing at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) when he received the final report from the Covid-19 National Education Response Committee.

Prof Magoha said the ministry will review the report before advising the country on the steps to be taken regarding the academic calendar.

He declined to disclose the details of the report until after President Kenyatta addresses the country Saturday.

During the briefing, the CS revealed that KICD has extended online and radio lessons for students until schools reopen.
