GRAFT WAR: Happy about the conviction of Sirisia MP John Waluke and co-accused Grace Wakhungu over the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) payments, E. Adika wants to see many more heads roll. He wants a new anti-corruption strategy. Says Adika: “If all corruption cases could be speedily heard and determined and the culprits punished according to the law, with maximum penalties meted out to them for looting the public coffers, then corruption would be deterred.” His contact is [email protected].

STIPENDS: Though he has heard a lot about the government’s stimulus package that includes stipends for the needy to help alleviate the Covid-19 sting, Kiplangat Ngerechi says none of the people he knows has received any such help. He is particularly concerned about stipends purportedly being sent to the slum dwellers in Nairobi. “I live near Kamae slums in Kahawa West, where people are suffering from hunger and have heard about the government aid but have never got any despite having been registered in April. Is it really true the government is giving out funds or is this meant to fool donors?” His contact is [email protected]

BLACKOUT: A resident of Kisii Town, Thomas Onyancha, says he and his neighbours have been in the dark since the electricity transformer in their neighbourhood malfunctioned on April 25. They still must endure really dark nights, despite having reported the breakdown immediately it happened and made several follow-ups at the Kenya Power’s office in Kisii Town. Tired of the unfulfilled promises, Thomas wonders who will listen to their seemingly unending complaints and ensure electricity supply is immediately restored. PIT LATRINE: Some things don't make sense, remarks W. Kimariech, on reports of a pit latrine in Nyeri County built at a cost of Sh1.5 million, complete with a billboard with the portraits of the governor and the local MCA, which reportedly later collapsed. Kimariech is convinced the cost of such a billboard would have catered for the construction of many 30ft-deep pit latrines at less than Sh30,000 each. Though the MCA has stridently defended himself, saying the project was an ablution block that cost Sh300,000 only, Kimariech is not convinced and still wishes the DCI could investigate the matter. LOCKDOWN DIARY: Thanks to her diary in the Daily Nation when she was stranded in Nigeria following the grounding of passenger flights, Diana Ndinda has become some kind of celebrity. Says Margaret Mbae: “I’m glad that Diana is back home, though in self-quarantine. I will miss her daily updates about her experiences, fears and expectations during her lockdown in Nigeria. Those of us who followed her daily narratives have learnt not to take life for granted.” The lessons include appreciating relatives and friends. “I hope she will continue writing.” Her contact is [email protected].

NEVER WALK ALONE: After “30 long and harrowing years of pain, sweat and tears”, soccer fan Robert Mukirae is elated that his favourite team, Liverpool, has won the 2019/2020 English Premier League. “Watchie and my distinguished fellow Nation readers, the clubs you support notwithstanding, please rise up and join me in a toast, singing that glorious and eternal club anthem, ‘You will never walk alone!’ In the annals of history, 2020 will be declared as the Year of Corona, but perhaps a footnote will be added that my Liverpool were Champions of England!” His contact is [email protected].

Have a triumphant day, won't you!
