The Moi University Pension Scheme has embarked on a landmark project which is set to give Eldoret town a new skyline with a 26-storey sky scrapper.

The magnificent twin-tower building is being constructed next to Imperial Bank along Uganda Road and is expected to be the tallest and biggest building West of Nairobi.

The construction of the building is being undertaken by EPCO Builders Limited under Eng Mayur R. Varsan.

A Trustee in the Scheme and chairman of the project, Prof Cheptuk Rotuch said upon completion, the twin office tower block will bring a long lasting solution to challenges brought by devolution especially in the housing sector.

“Following the inception of devolution, there is a shortage of modern offices in Eldoret town which is a major town in the North Rift region. Upon completion, most county governments in the region will now get office space in the complex,” said Prof Rotuch.

Speaking to nation.co.ke at the site where the complex is being constructed, Prof Rotuch said the scheme has invested over Sh2.4 billion for its construction.

The Professor highlighted that the Scheme seeks to sale the complex to members of the public and investors once it’s completed.

“We are going to sale the complex so that the money we get from the sale can benefit members of the scheme upon retirement. We don’t want our members to retire and go home without anything,” he said.

According to Prof Rotuch, the project was initiated in September last year and it is scheduled for completion early 2016.

The Trustee also said that those who will rent and buy space in the complex will have enough parking spaces for their vehicles.

“The building will have 5 dedicated floors for parking, bringing a solution to the parking shortage space currently being experienced in Eldoret town. We shall have 3 basement parking levels and 2 others on the mezzanine level designed in such a way that the vehicles will be lifted to get to the above podium,” he explained.

Prof Rotuch added that the building will have 17 typical floors from 7th to 23rd floor for offices with restaurant, Health Club and Swimming Pool on 24th Floor.

A Penthouse on 25th floor, 26th floor for the mechanical workshop and a communication mast will be set up on the 27th Floor.

He mentioned other salient features of the development as: back up power supply for towers, podium levels and firefighting, block internet user facilities, firefighting equipment with wet and dry risers.

“Our clients need not to be worried in regard to water shortage as we shall have a ground and elevated water reservoirs supplemented with an onsite borehole to increase the water supplied by the Eldoret Water and Sewerage (ELDOWAS),” he said highlighting that the building will also have a transformer, switch room and standby generator house.

In efforts to adequately secure the complex, the landmark building will be fitted with CCTV surveillance as well as a building management system.

Other facilities on the building will comprise of solar energy for lighting common areas and water heating, vertical communication by 6 No. high speed lifts to serve each tower independently, with two of the lifts being panoramic.

“There will also be a main staircase from ground to top floor, fire escape staircase from mezzanine Level 1 to top floor, staircase from basement level 1 to mezzanine level 4 and two access ramps with one from the ground floor to mezzanine level 4and the other ramp that will enable physically challenged to access building,” he explained.

However, the building will also have a perforated aluminum skin wall for solar shading.

Currently, the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) is the tallest and biggest building situated in the heart of Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County.

The Moi University Pension Scheme complex is set to provide adequate space for clients across the East African region and countries within the Great Water Lakes once completed after 112 weeks.
