A man accused of defiling his six-year-old daughter will be held in a police cell pending the hearing of his case after he failed to raise bond.

Hola Resident Magistrate Alloice Ndege on Wednesday granted the suspect a personal bond of Sh200,000 after he denied the charges against him.

Mr Ndege directed that the suspect be given safe escort to Malindi Prison where he will be held as a remandee prisoner until the date of hearing.

"Just as much I was inclined to order that the accused remain in custody until the prosecution key witnesses who are civilians testify but for the sake of justice I have come to the conclusion by granting the accused bond on appropriate terms. If he is unable to pay, then, he should be escorted to the appropriate place," Mr Ndege ruled.

The man was arrested on Monday after his daughter, whom he had taken to hospital for treatment alongside his wife, told police that he had defiled her.

The police found out that the couple had concocted the story to save her father's face.

On Wednesday, the State prosecutor urged the magistrate to allow the victim to testify before the court on Thursday saying that there is a plot to interfere with witness statement.

The six-year-old is recuperating at Hola Referral Hospital.
