What you need to know:

  • Explore websites such as Babbel, Udemy, Pluralsight, edx, Coursera and Class Central which offer courses from prestigious universities for free.
  • Indulge in a project you never had time for.

We have all learnt, with great dismay, that staying at home is not as fun or easy as we thought or expected. The lives of so many people have become repetitive and boring, to the point where napping and watching movies have begun feeling like chores. Here is a list of activities you can engage in to escape boredom during this period.

1. Read books

With the new stay-at-home order, why not do some reading to enrich your knowledge? If you have some unread books in your shelf, this is the best time to read them. Additionally, you can start a book club where you and your friends can share books online and motivate each other to read.

2. Take online classes

Thanks to the internet, you can take classes in almost anything – from new languages to cooking, DJing or even coding. Explore websites such as Babbel, Udemy, Pluralsight, edx, Coursera and Class Central which offer courses from prestigious universities for free.

3. Ramp up your portfolio

Like it or not, coronavirus is going to affect many people’s jobs and opportunities. Stay ahead by updating your resume and LinkedIn profile, including any new skills you may have acquired during this period.

4. Exercise

Now that you are stuck at home where everything is almost within arm’s reach, it is very easy to gain excess weight. Thankfully, there are several mobile apps such as Nike Training Club, 8Fit and Home Training that offer free workout routines.

5. Watch documentaries and listen to podcasts

When watching movies becomes boring, switch to documentaries centred on topics that interest you. This will keep you entertained while also exposing you to important information in a fun and interesting format. Apps such as Google Podcasts has thousands of podcasts that you can listen to as you go about your other activities.

6. Indulge in a project you never had time for

There is that one project you’ve always wanted to undertake but always lacked the time. It may be writing a book, starting a YouTube channel, folding the clothes in your wardrobe or learning to play a musical instrument. This is the best time to stop procrastinating and start working.
