What you need to know:

  • If you like it a little bit rough, this is the game for you. Get your paintball guns ready and shoot.
  • Ziplining is just Sh500 and hiking is free but you pay Sh200 entry fee.
  • How can we be in Nairobi and not have our Kenyan signature meal? Find your local nyama choma joint and enjoy with a side of Ugali and Kachumbari.

We need to find things to do other than Netflix and chill. So get up from your couch and let's explore the magical city of Nairobi.

1. Bowling at Village Market

Located at Village Market on Kiambu road, each game cost Sh500. For minimum interruptions, go during the week and before 2 pm when it is less crowded. Also wear socks or you will have to buy a pair at Sh300 as you cannot wear bowling shoes without socks.

2. Paintball frenzy

If you like it a little bit rough, this is the game for you. Get your paintball guns ready and shoot. The game is safe as you are provided with headgear, paintball guns and overalls. The cost is Sh1000 for 100 paintballs in most places like Purdy Arms in Karen, The Forest in Kereita and also at the Paintball Fury in Langata. Go as a group of ten people or more for extra fun.

3. Zip lining and Hiking at Ngong Hills

Ziplining is just Sh500 and hiking is free but you pay Sh200 entry fee. The zip line is about 1 kilometer in length one way. So, in total it is 2km for Sh500 which is really affordable. The views are breathtaking especially if you are a sunset watcher. You can also try ziplining at “The Forest” which has the longest zip line in East Africa. They charge Sh2,800 per adult and Sh2,300 per child for the six lines.

4. Roller Skating at Sunken Park

This is one of the most popular activities to do in Nairobi CBD on Sundays. You can go and watch or you can also skate. I was so embarrassed when I saw a five-year-old skating so swiftly while I could not even stand up straight when wearing the skates. But of importance is life (Bora Uhai). Skating is free if you have your own gear. But, you can also rent the gear at Sh300 per hour which comes with a safety gear and an instructor.

5. GP Karting in Langata

My adrenaline Junkies, I got you covered. This is for the speed lovers (the you guy my guy guys). How would you like to drive a go-kart at maximum speed? Sounds fun right? 10 to 20 minutes of pure adrenaline rush. The GP Karting place at Langata got you covered. The charges range from Sh900 to 1,300 depending on age.

For those interested to add a bit more of adventure to their fun, you can drive down to Whistling Morans in Athi River and have the same experience in a bigger setting. They have superbike races and motorsport races which are really enjoyable to watch or even participate in.

6. Eating Nyama Choma

How can we be in Nairobi and not have our Kenyan signature meal? Nyama choma is the ultimate meal for Kenyans. From Kamakis at the Ruai Bypass, Olepolos, Oletepes, Spinners on Mombasa road, Pork Pit in Ruaka for Pork, Hunters in Karen for pork, Sidai Oleng on Kiambu Road, Pork Centre in Kikuyu, the list is endless. Find your local nyama choma joint and enjoy with a side of Ugali and Kachumbari.
