Fashion designers receive Sh100 million boost from Equity Bank

  • Design your Destiny winner Arnold Muriithi who walked away with Shs150,000 and got an all-expenses paid invitation to attend this year’s Hub of Africa Fashion Week in Ethiopia. 
  • The other winners included Sheila Omondi, Latif Muqqadam and Chebet Lesan who were  first, second and third runners up respectively while Kevin Ouma and Chebet Lesan won the most promising designer awards.

Upcoming fashion designers have received a shot in the arm courtesy of a 100 million shillings seed fund.

The fund is dedicated for creative entrepreneurs in the fashion sector and is expected to promote the fledgling local fashion design and apparel retail market estimated at more than Sh30billion a year.

Speaking when he confirmed the facility reservation, Equity Group CEO Dr. James Mwangi said fashion designers among other players will enjoy access to the Sh100Million seed fund to “support the whole clothing and textile ecosystem which includes agriculture, ginneries, spinners, fabric traders, fashion and design through lease hire and asset finance facilities.”

He spoke during the presentation ceremony for the Vijana Na Equity; Design your Destiny winner Arnold Muriithi who walked away with Shs150,000 and got an all-expenses paid invitation to attend this year’s Hub of Africa Fashion Week in Ethiopia.
