Online show to honour singer Josky Kiambukuta

  • In the recent past, clips of the group rehearsing some of Josky’s popular compositions like ‘KSK’ and ‘Mabi’ have been trending on social media. Other popular songs by Josky include  ‘Bimansha’, ‘Chandra’, ‘Sincerite’, ‘Fariya’ and ‘Missle’.
  • The show has been organised courtesy of  Kenyan promoter Helen Winnie Arika (HWA) Production and Management who confirmed the show will start at 4pm (Kinshasa time) both on Facebook Live  and Youtube Live.

A special online show in honour of  legendary TP OK Jazz singer Josky Kiambukuta Londa is set for Sunday afternoon (August 16) in Kinshasa, DR Congo.

The show  dubbed ‘Hommage a Josky Kiambukuta’ will be the second after a similar one was held in  2018 in Paris, France. This is part of efforts by his fans and counterparts to honour the celebrated rhumba singer, who has lately been  off stage due to ill health.

He will,  however, be present during the online show a performance by the DJo Mpoyi Mania under the leadership of Eric Mpoyi a son to Djo Mpoyi, Josky’s former counterpart in the late Franco Luambo Makiadi’s TPOK Jazz Band.

It is a remarkable back up group of up and coming artistes in Kinshasa. .

Josky’s illustrious musical career with the legendary Franco Luambo Makiadi’s band dates back to 1973 from when he formed one of the top vocals line up in DR Congo.

Prior to joining  Franco’s TP OK Jazz band Josky had a stint with the legendary guitarist  Dr Nico Kasanda’s African Feista  Sukisa in 1969  a group which also featured singer Lessa Lassan who later relocated and died in Kenya.

In 1971 Josky teamed with others like guitarists Bopol Mansiamina and Serpent Kubamba in forming the Continental Jazz Band.

It was from this group that  Franco Luambo recruited him to his TPOK Jazz  band in 1973.

Some of those he sung alongside include  in the TP OK Jazz band include Lola Checain, Djo Mpoyi, Ntesa Dalienst,, Wuta Mayi, Ndombe Opetum, Sam Mangwana and Madilu  System.

After Franco’s death Josky was a key proponent of the off shoot Bana OK band that was led by Lutumba Simaro. It was while with the Bana OK band that he composed  the  "Mabi' hit song.

Ever since his return to Kinshasa from Europe early in April last year for the funeral of Simaro Masiya,  Josky has focused his attention back home.

Most of Josky’s Kenyan fans appear enthusiast of tomorrow’s show with many posting comments in anticipation of the online show.

This has drawn interest in Kenyans fans since the show involves a Kenyan promoter Hellen Arika who is based in Europe.
