Government spokesman Colonel (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna has confirmed that he tested positive for coronavirus.

In an announcement on posted on social media Friday, he says he's at an isolation facility receiving care.

"Contact tracing is ongoing and my family is ok."

Oguna said he recently travelled out of town on assignment and got mild virus symptoms upon return.

"I urge all Kenyans to take this disease seriously and take all the necessary precautions to avoid getting infected."

The announcement, however, comes just days after Col Oguna rubbished claims that he had been hospitalised after testing positive alongside two unidentified Cabinet Secretaries from Nyanza and Rift Valley.

“We have noted reports on social media purporting that I have been admitted in hospital. I wish to clarify that I am well and just got back from an assignment out of town,” Col Oguna said on Sunday.
