Covid-19: UNDP to send Kenya 50 volunteer health experts

The United Nations is set to deploy 50 volunteer health experts to 14 counties worst affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The initiative, under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will see the volunteer experts stay in the counties for six months to help both the county and the national government to effectively respond to the pandemic.
The target counties are Busia, Garissa, Kajiado, Kakamega, Kiambu, Kilifi, Kisumu, Machakos, Mandera, Migori, Nairobi, Taita Taveta, Uasin Gishu and Wajir.
The Health ministry identified these counties as most vulnerable to the disease.
RECRUITMENT
UNDP Resident Representative in Kenya, Mr Walid Badawi, said the programme is part of a Covid-19 response support initiative for counties, spearheaded by the UNDP in partnership with its donors.
In a letter to Council of Governors chair Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), he said the experts were being recruited in close collaboration with the 14 counties’ public service boards.
The volunteers will officially be deployed on July 1 in a ceremony in Kajiado.
As of June 29, Kenya had confirmed 6,190 cases of the virus, with the recording of 120 more cases.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman announced that a total of 2,013 people had recovered and that the death toll had risen to 144.
