St Paul's University gets new VC

St Paul's University has appointed former Daystar don Prof James Kombo as the new vice chancellor.

Prof Kombo takes over from the outgoing VC Joseph Galgalo, whose two term has come to an end.

Prof Kombo becomes the third VC to lead the university. The first VC was Dr Timothy Wachira.

Making the announcement the chairperson of the university council Rev DrJackson Naisore Ole Sapit, who is also the head of the Anglican Church of Kenya, said that Prof Galgalo tenure of office comes to an end in October.

“We thank God for a successful tenure of office of Prof Joseph Galgalo, whose term of 10 years as the vice-chancellor of St Paul’s University is coming to an end in October, 2020,” said Rev Sapit in a statement.

Rev Sapit said after a marathon recruitment process the council settled on Prof Kombo as the next VC.

“Prof Kombo is a professor of Systematic Theology with over 25 years of experience in university teaching, research and management,” added Rev Sapit.

Prof Kombo has served in in top managerial positions for a long time and is expected to assume office after completing his sabbatical leave in in US.

Prof Galgalo, 54, who joined St Paul’s University in 2002 made history by becoming the youngest VC to head a university from Northern Kenya when he took office in 2011 at the age of 45.

The former Marsabit Boys alumnus started as a teacher after completing his studies at Machakos Teachers Training College and proceeded to Cambridge University in the UK for his PhD.

He is a former lecturer at the Limuru-based university and a church minister at the ACK.
