Gor Mahia unveils electoral board

Gor Mahia Executive Committee (EC) has chosen three individuals to sit in the electoral board which will oversee the club's elections on August 8.

The three are chairman Henry Ogoye Kowero, a manager at Kenya Ports Authority, Kennedy Mbara, an advocate who will serve as secretary general and Council of Gor Mahia branches chairman Carilus Onyango who is a member of the board.

The trio is expected to deliver a free and fair election on August 8.

They will be tasked with scrutinizing nominations papers of the aspirants, determining nomination fee, coming up with final list of aspirants to vie for various positions, announcing the dates for the campaigns kick-off, tallying of votes and announcing the winners.

Gor Mahia outgoing vice chairman Francis Wasuna says the names of the individuals in the board were arrived at during last week's EC meeting and all members believe they will ensure the exercise is carried out in transparent manner.

He however insisted that the requirement of each aspirant having a degree is for all elective positions as contained in Gor Mahia's constitution.

"The ball is now on the electoral board's court and they should discharge their duties within the law and Gor Mahia's constitution," he said.

Already aspirants have started gearing up for the exercise with some announcing their candidature.

Outgoing Gor Mahia treasurer Sally Bollo in a statement said she will be gunning for the vice chairman post held by Wasuna who has announced he will be defending it. Former Migori MP John Pesa, who was the first vice chairman, has also announced he will vie for the same position.

So far no aspirant has announced he will challenge Ambrose Rachier for the post.

Outgoing organising secretary Judith 'Artillery' Anyango will be seeking the treasurer post against Dolfina Odhiambo of Gor Mahia Augmentin Fund. They  are the only ones who have announced their intention to vie for the position.

This year only the posts of chairman, vice chairman, secretary general and honorary treasurer are up for grabs. Gor Mahia constitution scrapped other seven positions so as to have a lean EC for the purpose of easy decision making on the affairs of the club.

Gor Mahia fans have started registering in numbers so as to participate in the August 8 elections.
