A High Court in Mombasa has ruled that the Sports Dispute Tribunal has the jurisdiction to determine sports cases and those against Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

The ruling is a setback to two FKF coast branch officials Lillian Kazungu and Gabriel Mughendi who went to court seeking orders to bar SDT from ruling on FKF matters and the fate of the Kenyan Premier League.

Judge Mugure Thandi in a ruling read on Thursday also removed temporary orders it had issued gagging SDT from issuing any orders on FKF case.

Subsequently the case has also been transferred from Mombasa to Nairobi.
KPL CEO Jack Oguda praised the ruling saying they are now awaiting the decision of SDT on the fate of the league.

KPL and Chemelil Sugar had gone to SDT to oppose FKF cancellation the 2019/20 season. FKF President Nick Mwendwa had declared Gor Mahia and Nairobi City Stars KPL and National Super League champions respectively.

Kazungu and Mughendi had also sued the Chief Justice, Attorney General, and Chief Registrar of the Judiciary in the case.
