Western Stima tactician Salim Babu is on the verge of joining Wazito as assistant coach after his contract with the former ended last month.

Babu confirmed to Nation Sport that he his in talks with the money bags, but said the negotiations were still 50-50 and he would lay bare much information once the negotiations are complete.

"It is true I am in talks with Wazito to be their assistant coach , but I can't reveal much because we have not yet finished up on negotiations," he said.

Western Stima chairman Laban Jobita said that he has also learnt that Babu would be leaving through the social media and wished him well.

"His contract ended with us last month and no effort has been made to renew it. We have not talked but I wish him well just like I did to Omala who has joined Gor Mahia.

I don't always cling on coaches and players more so if they feel they have chosen the right path to their career," said Jobita.

Western Stima are yet to find a new sponsor after the exit of Kenya Power, which has sponsored them for the past 15 years.

The power firm also used to sponsor Nairobi Stima and Coast Stima, but exited citing harsh economic times caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Babu replaced Paul Ogai as Western Stima coach in April last year from National Super League side Migori Youth.

This season he led Stima to seventh position in the Kenyan Premier League tale before the season suspended indefinitely due to coronavirus pandemic.

On the other hand, Wazito CEO Dennis Gicheru confirmed the negotiations were ongoing, but said they were not yet complete.

If the deal goes through, Babu will deputise Fred Ambani, who was recently appointed as head coach to replace  Stewart Hall, who parted ways with the club on mutual consent.
