  • Only four positions, as opposed to eleven in the past, are up for grabs during the polls that will be conducted electronically and as per the new constitution which has been changed so as to comply with the Sports Act 2013.

Management consultant Eluid Owalo says he will not contest for the chairmanship at Gor Mahia.

This announcement paves the way for incumbent Ambrose Rachier to be re-elected unopposed and extend his 16-year stay at the team.

The Kenyan Premier League giants will virtually conduct elections on August 8 and as per the new constitution, the elected leaders will be handed a fresh four-year mandate.

"I've been a fan of the club since the 1980s and I'm happy being and remaining an ordinary, but committed member of the Gor Mahia family," explained Owalo, who has severally bailed the cash strapped club in the past.

"Granted, I do provide some material support once in a while to the club depending on unfolding events from time to time, but this should not be misconstrued to imply I'm interested in any leadership position at the club."

In the other positions, outgoing treasurer Sally Bolo will contest against Francis Wasuna for the vice-chairmanship.

Meanwhile, another long-serving official namely Ronald Ngala will be up against Sam Ochola for the secretary-general post, whilst the vocal Judith 'Nyangi' Anyango, Chrispine Okoth, Dolfina Onduta and Victor Mbaka are eyeing the treasurer's position.
