BOOK NOOK: 'Absolutely Positively' by Jayne Ann Krentz

Jayne Ann Krentz is those writers who have the same type of superhero that I can't get enough of. The hero always has some dark past that he is trying to struggle with and thinks no one will love him because of. PHOTO | FILE

What you need to know:

  • Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly, unless this is the first romance novel you've ever read), her hot headed impetuousness strikes a spark in the doctor's methodical, impeccably controlled hart and those sparks fly.
  • But the doctor has a secret that he's unwilling to admit, even to himself – one that has to do with a paranormal heritage he is constantly trying to deny.

I have a penchant for cheesy romance novels, and Jayne Ann Krentz is no exception – she's as cheesy as you could possibly get.

Krentz is not one of my favourite aliases of hers – ironic, because that's the one that's her real (married name).

I recently discovered that Jayne Ann Krentz has seven different pseudonyms that she uses for publication, my favourite of which is Amanda Quick, her historical romance alias.

She's those writers who have the same type of superhero that I can't get enough of. The hero always has some dark past that he is trying to struggle with and thinks no one will love him because of.

It's always hilarious to me how the idiots in the book don't understand the true nature of women – which is that, fortunately or unfortunately, we will love you wholly and completely until you give us a good enough reason not to.

Absolutely Positivelyis no different. The story centres around Molly Abberwick, descendant of a long line of curious, ahead-of-their-time investors, in charge of running her family's foundation, which gives out money to promising future scientists.

WRITTEN BOOKS

In order to figure out who to give the money to, she calls upon the expertise of Dr Harry Trevelyan, whose skill at finding cons is so renown, he's written several books on the subject.

Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly, unless this is the first romance novel you've ever read), her hot headed impetuousness strikes a spark in the doctor's methodical, impeccably controlled hart and those sparks fly.

But the doctor has a secret that he's unwilling to admit, even to himself – one that has to do with a paranormal heritage he is constantly trying to deny.

Before they have time to explore their feelings, someone tries to kill Molly, and now they have a murderer to find. But Harry might also find that he cares about Molly more than just an illicit affair. Could she ever love him, flaws and all?

I know, I know. It's super cheesy. But even though you know what's going to happen at the end, you'll be delighted to get to it regardless.
