What you need to know:

  • Kenyan maestro Upkar Singh has a strong religious background and excels in singing all musical genres.
  • He will feature in an upcoming Punjabi movie to be produced in Canada. He will be its music composer and lead singer.
  • If you adore, and are in love with, British stage comedies with a Kenyan spice and are in for a rib tickling experience, Aperture Africa fun merchants are here once again.

This year’s Labour Day celebration brought an International crowning glory for one of our most admired maestros.

Canadian film producers Ahuja Innovations of Toronto released the poster of their forthcoming Punjabi movie PEELE PATTE meaning yellow leaves – the movie features our Upkar Singh as its music composer and lead singer.

FILM

The movie, I understand, is about Sikhs who have made Canada their home and it dwells on their social, cultural and religious lifestyle.

Upkar is currently in Toronto and confirmed that it was his recently released album SURANGLI that has done the trick.

The Kenyan maestro has a strong religious background and excels in singing all musical genres.

Nurtured in this field by his father he happily engages in recitals of holy Kirtans at Sikh temples. His interest in Urdu poetry coupled with a melodious voice serves him well when he takes over to sing ghazals with a romantic flavour.

He is equally at home entertaining lovers of lighthearted Bollywood songs. Professionally Upkar is an educationist and hails from an art-loving family of poets and religious singers.

I will have more about the movie in days to come. In the meantime, we wish Upkar all the very best as he dons an international music composer's cap.
