Bahati to host exclusive party

Gospel musician Kevin Bahati has planned an invite-only thanksgiving party set to take place next week at the KICC. During the ceremony, Bahati, who came to limelight about half a decade ago, is set to introduce the latest artiste he has signed under his label EMB (Eastland Most Beloved).

“It will be a red carpet event for the quarters that have been supporting my music journey since it started. Besides that, I will also be unveiling the newest artiste signed under EMB. We started with Mr Seed, then got David Wonder and the third one to join our family, recently, is female. She will be introduced on Tuesday,” Bahati told Showbuzz.

Among those invited are media personalities as well as corporates. Bahati burst into fame in 2013 when he released his hit song ‘Mama’ produced by R Kay. Since then, he has been scaling the heights of the music scene in the process attracting controversies from various quarters, including picking beef with fellow gospel musician Willy Paul which they later squashed.

Nadia hits out at King Kaka over collabo

Fast-rising songbird Nadia Mukami, who is currently doing well with her single ‘Si Rahisi’, has urged established musicians to practise what they preach. The 21-year-old Finance student at Maseno University hit out at rapper King Kaka for turning her down on a collaboration request she made to him for the song. Nadia, who is among artistes set to perform at Luo Festival later this month, said she felt King Kaka’s versatile rhymes would have added punch to the song, but the rapper turned her down.

“I sent the demo of the song to King Kaka and asked him if he would jump on it as with a few additional bars. All he said was the song is good but didn’t show interest in a collabo,” said Nadia, who recently signed with a new recording label Hailemind Entertainment.

This claim comes barely few months after King Kaka ran into a war of words with Sauti Sol after he accused them – among other veteran musicians like Redsan, CMB Prezzo and Wyre – of not doing much for the Kenyan music industry as far as nurturing upcoming talent is concerned.

Profesa Jay set to release his sixth album ‘Icon’ this year

Legendary bongo flava Hip Hop artiste Joseph Haule aka Profesa Jay, currently the member of parliament for Mikumi Constituency, is set to release his sixth career album some time this year. During a recent interview with a radio station in Tanzania, the 42-year-old cited his new responsibilities for being unable to finish the album that was set to be dropped two years ago.

“I had this idea long before I got elected, but since I became a member of parliament, my focus shifted to delivering services to Mikumi people. Even with the demanding responsibilities, I have to heed the call of my fans and that’s why I promise to release my new album ‘Icon’ in September this year, or a month later,” Profesa Jay explained.

Despite the responsibilities that come with his parliamentary post, Profesa Jay, who was elected during Tanzania’s October 2015 general election, has been able to release three songs: ‘Kazi kazi’, ‘Kibabe’ and now ‘Pagamisa’.

Since starting his career back in the 90s, the multiple award-winning veteran has been able to release five albums: ‘Machozi, Jasho na Damu 2001’, ‘Mapinduzi Halisi 2003’, ‘J.O.S.E.P.H 2006’, ‘Aluta Continua 2007’ and  ‘Izack Mangesho 2014’.

The Weeknd threatens to sue Nigeria’s Wizkid

Canadian musician The Weeknd has threatened to sue Nigerian star Wizkid, and any other artiste who will try to trademark the alias ‘Starboy’, according to Gossip website TMZ .

TMZ reports that The Weeknd wants people to know that he is the only and real ‘Starboy’, an alias he claims he has paid some good cash to make his trademark and, as such, his lawyers are ready to take on any ‘imposters’.

According to the same reports, The Weeknd is already on the move to file a lawsuit against one Eymm Talasazan, who he claims wants to use the trademark ‘Starboy’ for TV projects and comic books. The musician argues that Talasazan is trying to profit from his success as this is the name of his album that was released in November 2016.

After its release, the album made it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart after spending eight consecutive weeks in the number two slot, Billboard reported. Wizkid’s record label is called Starboy Records, a name he created in 2013.
