Mustapha won't "Chokoza" Marya

Rapper Colonel Mustapha has offered a leaning shoulder to his ex-girlfriend, singer Marya, after confirming she is single again. She recently split from her "baby-daddy".

The two singers dated for two years, and were said to be living together, before their acrimonious break up seven years ago.

Both blamed each other for causing the break up. Mustapha claimed Marya wasn’t faithful to him, while she alleged that he was abusive.

Marya then went on to date a Dubai-based business man, Kevin Mutisya, even relocating to be with him.

In January of 2017, after being blessed with a son, the two decided to keep their private life low key until a week ago, when Marya revealed they were no longer together.

 Mustapha has now disclosed that he is ready to offer her emotional support during this period, despite their frosty history.

“I know she is going through so much at the moment and it will be good if we let her be. As a friend, I am ready to support her in whichever way during this trying moment.”

Sage’s solo parenting

Songbird Sage Chemutai who broke into the limelight with"So Alive" has raised eyebrows on whether her ex-boyfriend, rapper King Kaka, is a deadbeat father.

The melodious singer and the rapper have a daughter from their short-lived love affair.

Recently, Sage opened up and said that raising four-year-old Ayanna as a single parent has been the most challenging experience she ever faced.

Sage claimed that she has been footing most of her daughters’ bills on her own.

“…You know I am alone, other parents are paying fees together. In the beginning, I was freaking out but after her first term in school, I was able to pay her school fees.”

She also keeps worrying whether she will be able to keep providing for her daughter on her own, but has learnt to take one thing at a time.

Despite these struggles that kept her missing from the music scene, Sage is back to performing as it was witnessed on Friday when she shared stage with American singer Keri Hilson, Big Shaq, Bobby Valentino, among others at the KICC.

Elani is back!

After two years of abesence, Afro pop group Elani are back with a new album that they are set to release next week.

 Elani, who took the Kenyan music scene by storm four years ago with their tracks "Jana Usiku", "Kookooo" among others, famously got into a war of words with the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) over royalties in 2016.

 However, the vastly talented trio of lawyers Brian Chweya, Maureen Kunga and actuarial scientist Wambui Ngugi have decided to break their silence.

 In a video the group posted confirming the news, Wambui said, “Ladies and gentlemen, I am glad to announce that we are back."

 Elani will make their official comeback on Wednesday August 8, while releasing the first single off their second album Colours of Love.

 In the video, Brian praises the new project as “a beautiful piece” with Wambui adding, “I’m so proud of the work that we have all put in. I’m really excited for you guys to hear what is in the album.”

Maureen says more singles will follow in quick succession afterwards.

Elani are coming back at a time when MCSK has been banned from collecting any further royalties on behalf of artistes.

Bamboo: Suit holds my music output

Legendary rapper Bamboo has revealed why he has been missing in the entertainment scene despite having made a comeback, insisting he hasn’t quit.

In an exclusive interview with Showbuzz, he stated that a case in court, where he is fighting for his music rights, has taken a toll on him.

The rapper took Bernsoft Company, a premium rate service provider owned by Bernard Kioko, to court.

He is accusing the company of stealing his music back in 2009 then selling it to Safaricom Skiza Tunes Service without his consent.

Bamboo is demanding compensation of about Sh70 million. He says Bernsoft claims it received the songs in question "Mama Africa" featuring Akon and "Yes Indeed" featuring Rufftone from Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), but he says he never had any contract with MCSK back in 2009 when his songs were allegedly stolen.

“I have never been paid a penny to date. I was forced to sue both parties. I haven’t quit (music), I’ll be back,” Bamboo said.

He filed the case number 445 back in 2015 at the High Court, which was first heard on July 3, 2018.

Angela Ndambuki a director at KAMP

Ex-singer now lawyer Angela Ndambuki has been appointed a director of Kenya Association of Music Producers (KAMP).

Angela, a former member of the Kenyan girls band Tatuu, that made hits such as "Teso" and "Jua Lanyesha", is among the seven new directors who were voted in during KAMP’s Annual General Meeting that took place on August 1 in Nairobi.

Angela is an advocate of the High Court and was among 21 nominees who were cleared to run for the elections.

She made the cut, emerging sixth after garnering a total of 371 votes from KAMP members.

The former singer will now sit in KAMP’s Board of Directors alongside Faith Kithele who garnered 448 votes, Anthony Karani (438), Pastor Anthony Musembi (421), Abeddy Ngosso (394), Patrick Ndilango (283) and new chairman Rev. Gabriel Torome (546) replaces Japheth Kasanga, one of the pioneers.

Of the seven newly elected, two are former Directors of the organisation.

KAMP is a recognised collective management organisation. Its primary role is to license music users such as broadcasters, and to collect royalties on behalf of its members. It represents more than 700 music producers within the country.
