I love and cherish my mother so much. She has invested a lot in me and she made my family get saved.

My mother Elmeldah Nyanchama was the first one in our family to give her life to the Lord. She got saved in 1991 after a friend invited her to church.

“I felt very peaceful in my heart that day...” I recall her saying.

Before she got saved, she sold illegal brew. After that day in church, her life was never the same.

Critics told her she would never amount to anything, and even asked her how she would earn a living now that she no longer sold illegal alcohol.

But she kept the faith and always said, “It is better to live for Jesus than die selling liquor”.

Mum stood her ground and the Lord has been faithful to her.

A NEW PATH

She started taking us to church when I was eight years old. My brother and I went to church because of her.

We would be happy at Sunday school and we would hear of the Lord's great deeds but did not receive Him in our lives.

One day in 1998, mum called us to the table and said, “My sons, you know you have to receive Jesus in your hearts.” I responded, “Mum, we go to church every Sunday, and we have heard the pastor preach to us about Jesus.”

It was then that mum explained the scriptures to us, and I listened carefully as she taught us God's word. She prayed for us and led us in a confession prayer. From that day, my faith started growing and my life has never been the same.

She also talked to my father about God and he too started going to church. Dad came to church and the pastor prayed for him and he received Jesus in his heart.

I am thankful to the Lord for my mother. She is the reason that our family knows God.

She was a humble and prayerful woman.
