eMy father, David Ogega, dealt with the major disciplinary cases in our house.

My mum would deal with the minor offences but when it came to the major crimes, you'd find yourself in front of dad and that was never a good thing. He was very thorough in everything he undertook.

My dad always wanted us to know that nothing came free, if there was food on the table, it was because someone had worked to get it there.

He was overprotective of me, mostly because I was his only daughter. I felt like my freedom and sometimes my potential was curtailed.

In retrospect, he acted out of love. I spent a lot of my time with my dad. I remember when I was a freshman at the university, I used to travel to Nairobi each Friday to spend the weekend with him.

Everything seemed to be going on smoothly till on  August 15, 2017, at 8pm , when we got a call that my dad was involved in an accident, I didn't take it seriously because he once called me when I was in school and said "Mum, I got an accident but I’m fine".

So I thought this other accident was just a minor one like the other one, but I was wrong. He was in very bad condition.

He couldn't speak. He was rushed to Mater Hospital and after some tests and scans, it was discovered that he had a crack in his head. He was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital but passed away on August 22 at 9pm.

He was gone too soon.

My special message to him is this:  Dad, we miss you so much, I miss you calling me "mum".

The world may not know or acknowledge you, dad but I do. You will always be with me no matter where you are.

Rest in peace. Until we meet again.
