JUST BRENDA: My needy sister always asks for cash

Hi Brenda,

Thanks for the work you do.

My problem is with my sister. She is older but keeps asking for money from me for her needs.

She has a job which is not as well-paying as mine but I don’t get why she keeps asking me for cash instead of living within her means.

I told her this before and we had a falling out and she even cried saying she could not sustain herself.

I asked her to move to a cheaper house and stop eating out and she changed for a while but the cycle started again and I caved also when she asked me for cash.

How do I break this cycle because it is really stressing me.

Listen, either she cries for now and moves on or you'll both be crying forever. She has a job.

You aren't her mother or her father or her sponsor or her child or her grandchild or her trust fund. And until you realise this, she will keep using you to supplement her income because you always cave.

You are clearly not tired of caving, which is why you are still doing it. Just say no. It's your money!

You don't have to explain why you have said no. Just. Say. No. Or keep feeding and funding a child you didn't bear. Ati she cried. Ha!
