JUST BRENDA: Which dating apps do you recommend?

What you need to know:

  • Dating apps are a minefield, but of course there are some that have reputations and some that don't.
  • For example, Tinder, in my experience, in the Kenyan sphere, tends to be a bit of a meat market.

Hi Brenda,

I want to try out dating Apps but I am so super scared of what I might get there given the horror stories out here. Please tell me the ups and downs of it.

What's your take on Apps like Tinder? Any others you can recommend?

Dating apps are a minefield, but of course there are some that have reputations and some that don't. For example, Tinder, in my experience, in the Kenyan sphere, tends to be a bit of a meat market, as opposed to somewhere you meet someone you actually want to connect with – not physically, I mean. But if you look at the terrain of social media now, any app can be a dating app really, if you want it to be.

Twitter in its inception on Kenyan soil was quite the hook up field. I'm all for dating apps, simply because dating as we know it is evolving and so must how we date. Don't be drawn into thinking that people are exactly the same online as they are in person, and always meet in a public place, obviously, without exchanging home addresses or bank card pins. Try it – real life has just as many horror stories. Good luck!
