What you need to know:

  • Sundar’s boss passes on leaving behind a fortune for his only daughter Rekha.
  • Nritalaya is holding its Annual Dance recital at the Oshwal Junior Academy theatre this weekend.

Kenyan Gujarati theatre goers have a known passion for comedies and love watching shows that excel in fun and frolic.

Event co-ordinator Raju Lodhia is certainly well aware of this passion of our audience and as such has lost no time in facilitating a theatrical laughter invasion on our stage this month.

TWO WIVES

SUNDAR BE BAYDIWALA — Sundar of two wives, together with his group of playful comedians, has been signed up to enthral our audience initially in Nairobi at the Oshwal Centre Auditorium stage in Westlands for a couple of performances on Saturday May 25 and Sunday May 26.

Later, the merry laughter chefs travel to Eldoret and Kisumu with their sumptuous fun and frolic.

Rated as a five star comedy at its best, Sundar Be Baydiwala is a fun show revolving around a protagonist Sundar who is happily married to Jaya.

He works for a kind and wealthy employer Damodhar. The wife does not live with him as she is engaged as a call centre agent in her hometown. Sundar’s boss passes on leaving behind a fortune for his only daughter Rekha.

CURIOUS CONDITION

There is a twist in the story here that there is a curious condition that the deceased’s Will document should only be opened once the daughter is married. Rekha requests Sundar to marry her. What happens thereafter is for you to take a ride in this laughter express and find out.

The comedy is written by Vinod Sarvaiya and directed by Sanjay Goradia who also features as the lead actor.

Surely we know Sanjay well as he was here with his fun merchants in 2016 delivering comic punches which our comedy lovers received with plenty of giggles, laughter, applauses and standing ovations.

Remember Mari Wife Mary Kom the fun riot at the same venue over two years ago? I understand Sanjay’s comedy express has had rather successful performances of Sundar and his two wives not only at home in India but also in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the USA.

FREE SNACKS

The show organisers have announced that the audience will be served with free snacks and refreshments during the break time.

To enjoy these free snacks and above all the company of the polygamist, his wives and Indian comedians, book your seats early.

Advance booking plans are open at Pals Bookshop and Stationers Diamond Plaza.

As we plan to laugh away our day to day worries, it is time to also brace ourselves and be overwhelmed by the intricacies of an Indian classical dance style. Nritalaya is holding its Annual Dance recital at the Oshwal Junior Academy theatre this weekend.

It is an evening of Bharat Natyam by Guru Gita Umesh’s dance students. It is always a pleasure seeing our home grown Kenyan dancers excel in this age old and complex Indian classical art form.
