What you need to know:

  • Veneration Z, by Yambo Okoth, is about a boy who secretly follows his father and brother into battle, only to trigger the very thing everyone is trying to prevent.
  • Okoth is planning to release new editions in September, every week.

While we’re still in the spirit of animation, I attended NAICCON, Nairobi’s response to Comic Con. It happened last weekend and was featured on this page a couple of weeks ago.

Basically, anyone who loves anything and everything to do with superheroes, anime, manga, animation, creativity, movies, video games, virtual reality – the whole fusion between technology and storytelling, was there, some even in cosplay.

The stalls had a lot to offer, from live caricatures to what I made a beeline for: Kenyan comic books.

I love comics, Kenyan comics even more so.

I picked up this one, Veneration Z, right next to another bunch of fantastic art from Homefront by Point Blank Evumbi to The Continent, produced by Vanguard Artz.

Okoth is planning to release new editions in September, every week, which I say hurray to, because he will get to finish a story he left midway.

It was about a boy who secretly follows his father and brother into battle, only to trigger the very thing everyone is trying to prevent.

I wish I didn’t have to wait until September because Kenyans are doing such marvellous things!
