What you need to know:

  • The stunts at some point became implausible, and you’ll excuse me for not believing in the badness of the bad guy.
  • I feel like the motivation for this plotline was completely lacking, but I guess, like every other Hollywood movie this year, they just needed to bankroll a sequel lacking in originality so that the studio stays open.

Now You See Me (1) blew my mind, but Now You See Me 2 not so much. The old gang is back together, save for Isla Fisher, who has been replaced by the effervescent Lizzy Caplan (you know her from Cloverfield).

Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Dave Franco, Jesse Eisenberg, and of course, Morgan Freeman, proceed to try and perform an even bigger heist than they did in the first movie.

I feel like the motivation for this plotline was completely lacking, but I guess, like every other Hollywood movie this year, they just needed to bankroll a sequel lacking in originality so that the studio stays open. The acting was good, but even the Hulk can’t save a bad script - so that’s the second bad movie I’ve seen this week. At this point I may need a cinematic sabbatical. My advice?

If you haven’t seen The Jungle Book of Captain America: Civil War yet, now’s the time. But if you’re feeling masochistic and overly gullible, try NYSM2 at any Planet Media Cinema, Fox Cineplex Sarit and Anga.
